Three places, one route
We work in south-central Ethiopia, in the Rift Valley lakes region. Three bases, all started with the Consolata Missionaries.

Gambo
The Gambo Mission, in the Apostolic Vicariate of Meki, lies about 250 km south-east of Addis Ababa, near the town of Arsi Negele in the West Arsi Zone, in the heart of the Rift Valley lakes region.
The village has around 3,000 inhabitants. The main language is Oromo, followed by Amharic — Ethiopia's official language — and Kambata. The main activities are livestock farming and growing cereals and vegetables.
The mission was started in 1922 by the Capuchin Friars and has been run by the Consolata Missionaries since 1972. Here we supported the hospital, the farm and the school for decades; all three have now been handed over to the local authorities and community.

Alaba
In Alaba the Consolata Fathers run a school that is a reference point for 850 children, offering quality education and a solid reputation.
Two projects are under way here: a rainwater collection and purification system, and the construction of three new classrooms to take in more students.
Mountain area · 2,000 m a.s.l.
Weragu
The Weragu Mission sits at 2,000 metres altitude, in a mountain area where access to healthcare is extremely limited: it is the reference point for 50,000–60,000 people.
The only health facility is a small clinic built of mud and straw, run by three nursing sisters. We are working to build a new one in masonry.
