Education is the key to a better future. For years the Amici di Filippo association supported the school of the Gambo Mission, giving children access to quality primary education. The school is not only a place of learning: it is where children can imagine their own future, build skills and gain the tools to create a stronger, more independent community — the right to dream of what they will become.
The work focused not only on improving school buildings, but also on promoting good hygiene practices and health education, to give students a healthy and safe environment.
The main work carried out
- Teachers for the school — recruiting and training qualified local teachers for the mission’s primary and secondary schools: a long-term investment with a high return for the social and economic growth of the area.
- Hygiene and sanitation — refurbishing the toilets and keeping classrooms clean and maintained, because a healthy environment is one where studying and learning go better.
- Health education — a programme promoting hygiene practices and sexual and reproductive health education for adolescents, so that younger generations grow up informed and responsible.
The handover to the local community
Thanks to the investments and work carried out, the school of the Gambo Mission reached a level of independence that allows it to be run entirely by the local community: the result of years of work to consolidate a stable, self-sufficient education system.
Education remains one of the keys to Gambo’s development, and our legacy lives on through the generations of students who attend this school every day.
